On September 24, 2003, 293 young men from
14 different St. Louis area high schools participated in
"A Cappella Explosion". The event’s purpose was to involve area
students in singing and enjoying four-part harmony. It was sponsored by The
Ambassadors of Harmony and Lindenwood University, and took place at the
Lindenwood University Performing Arts Center.
Dr. Jim Henry directed the day, and several of The
Ambassadors of Harmony participated as section leaders and support singers.
The group spent the day learning three songs, including Tom Gentry's
arrangement of "Silhouettes", "Irish Blessing", arranged
by Don Gray, and "The Foggy, Foggy Dew".
After a break for lunch and one more section
rehearsal, the group enjoyed performances by Vocal Spectrum, Voices
Only and Expanded Sound, and each group was well received by all.
The group then "Irish
Blessing" one last time before saying goodbye.
It was another rewarding day for
everyone, and many of the students present will no doubt be inspired, as Dr.
Henry put it, to "sing every day, sing all the time", and make use
of the gift they've been given in their voices.
