The
Ambassadors of Harmony, an a cappella chorus of 150
men, won their 12th consecutive Championship in the
BHS Central States District Chorus competition on
October 7th in Wichita, Kansas, under the direction
of Dr. Jim Henry. The group re-entered the competition
cycle following a 2 1/2 year hiatus, after having
won the International Championship in 2004. Prior
to that time they had won the District Championship
for eleven years in a row, and had earned top-four
medals in 10 straight International Contests, including
the First-Place Gold Medal in 2004. They performed
a two-song set in the contest, which included I
Have Dreamed, from The King and I, and
The New Ashmoleam Marching Society and Students'
Conservatory Band, from Charley's Aunt,
which brought the crowd to their feet. Both songs
were arranged by Dr. David Wright, Associate Director.
In
addition to winning the competition in Wichita, the
Ambassadors offered a performance following the competition
of Friend Like Me, from the movie Aladdin;
Fare Thee Well Love; and Man of La Mancha, receiving
standing ovations and being held over for an encore
by an audience of enthusiastic fans.
Winning
the District Championship qualifies the Ambassadors
of Harmony to compete at the BHS International Chorus
Contest, in July of 2007, in Denver Colorado. They'll
begin preparing for that now, along with rehearsing
for their annual holiday show, Sounds of the Season
- 2006, which will be held at the Touhill Performing
Arts Center December 8-10, 2006. For more show information
