Ambassadors of Harmony Applauded by Thousands in Salt Lake City
The Ambassadors of Harmony, International Chorus Champions, received multiple standing ovations in three performances at the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Convention and competition in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 8th and 9th. Since winning the International Chorus Championship in 2004, the Ambassadors have had a wonderful year entertaining their audiences. As returning Champions, they conducted a one hour Masters' Class, led by their Director, Dr. Jim Henry, and their Associate Director and Arranger, Dr. David Wright. The class was attended by several hundred Society Members, music leaders, and chorus directors who had great interest in learning about how the Ambassadors of Harmony had been able to grow over the years from a group that couldn't place in a St. Louis area competition into a World Championship chorus. On July 8th, the group performed three songs for the World Harmony Jamboree, an event that featured top performers from the world of a cappella singing. The package featured "The New Ashmolean Marching Society and Students' Conservatory Band", a song that thrilled the audience at the International competition last year. Later that day, they offered a special one-hour performance of many of the songs from the Ambassadors' repertoire. On Saturday July 9th, The Ambassadors of Harmony performed once again, immediately after the International Chorus contest. Their "swan song", following which they passed the traveling O.C. Cash trophy to the newly crowned 2005 Chorus Champions, featured an exciting finale of "Man of La Mancha", which pulled the thousands in attendance from their seats applauding. As International Champions, the Ambassadors of Harmony can not compete again until the fall of 2006, when they will compete in the Central States District Chorus competition, which they won every year from 1994 through 2004. They must win that competition again in order to qualify to compete once again in the 2007 International Chorus competition, which will be held in July of that year in Denver, Colorado. In the interim, the Ambassadors are looking forward to performing in their shows and contracted performances. They have been invited to perform in May of 2006 at the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) convention in England. Their ongoing mission is to continually improve in vocal quality, performance, and personal fulfillment in a cappella singing. They focus on telling the story and conveying the emotion of it, both in their singing and in their visual performance. Their goal is to give a gift that will change the lives of the people in their audience.
